Taking My First Step to Write
I have had a book idea in my head for over 12 years. I even started writing it about 9 years ago. I think I wrote about 13 very short chapters. Then I let the overwhelm of writing a book consume me and I stopped writing. As an engineer and someone who wasn't a great student in literature, I didn't really believe I could write a book. I let the negative voices in my head win.
However this past year I have listened to almost 40 audio book during my long commute to work each day. As I have listened and enjoyed these books I started hearing a very quite voice prompting me that I could write a book and that I should pull out the book I started, dust it off, and try again.
So that is exactly what I did this past Labor Day weekend. I set some writing goal, wrote them down and then got started. I have written approx 350 words everyday this week. What I discovered is it isn't that hard to write 350 words.
I hope to use this blog site to post some excerpts from my book and would love for people to read and comment. I am no professional and am open to constructive criticism.
Have you let the negative voices in your head keep you from trying something new? Shut those voices up and take that first small step.
