Froggin' It Out

What a feeling to complete the first draft of my book; “Until All Is Forgiven”.   I was so excited and nervous all at the same moment.  With trepidation, I sent my draft to my editor.  It was scary putting my creation out in the world.  My editor did a great job with providing very constructive feedback.  As she shared with me, I agreed with all of her comments.  I was excited to get to the editing process and get that second draft done. However, I soon learned that this is a bit of a painful task.

I was sharing with my sister how much work it is to incorporate the edits.  I found myself re-writing some sections and moving stuff around to improve the flow.  I told her at times I feel like I am de-constructing the book rather than improving it.

She said, “Sounds like you are Froggin’ it out”.  I told her I had no idea what that meant.  She said it’s a phrase we use in the crochet world.  You see, my sister is a prolific crocheter (and a really good one!).  She proceeded to explain that every time she has to pull out a bunch of stitches in her project it’s called “Froggin’ in out”.

Of course, I had to google the crochet slang, and I learned it has to do with having to rip out your hard work, such as a few rows of a blanket or an entire part of the project.  Fun fact:  the term frog became associated with this ripping out process because of the sound “rip-rip-rip” it makes and when you say the words quickly it sounds like a frog.

She is right that I am “Froggin it out” because I am ripping out some of my hard work.  But just like a crochet project, this is going to make my book better!

Frogging it out. With several aunts who did crochet and Jo who had done it some I’d never heard it mentioned either. Ribbit ribbit
