See The Glass Half Full

I have a goal to complete the first draft edits of my book “Until All Is Forgiven” by September 22nd.  As of today, I am about 50% done.  I want to celebrate this accomplishment.  It’s important to celebrate the baby step milestones along the way.

Sometimes I forget this and focus on what I have not yet completed.  Or I focus on how much more there is to do.  I need to be vigilant of these thoughts as it can spiral me into a state of overwhelm.  This then triggers doubt and feelings of uncertainty about my writing ability.  I start to tell myself there is too much to do to publish a book and there is so much that I don’t know.  This is the point I start to see “the glass half empty”

But I know better.  I know that entertaining these thoughts is a slippery slope, that will lead me to giving up.  So, what do I do to return to “the glass half full” paradigm?

1.    I say “STOP” out loud to myself

2.    I say a quick prayer of gratitude for my gifts, talents, and blessings

3.    I acknowledge what I have accomplished already

4.    I remind myself that what I have to say is important

5.    I define my next steps to get to my end goal

6.    And then I lean on my new author’s social media community by reading their stories and sharing mine.

It does come down to perspective, perseverance and a strong will to shift.  Gratitude for where you have come from can be a very powerful place to start.  Keep showing up for yourself and I will do the same!
